Who Wrote That K-pop Song? How to Check Songwriter and Producer Credits
A voice you recognize does not tell you who wrote the song. If you want to identify a K-pop songwriter or producer, start with the exact recording and read its published credits. Keep the song version and source together so that a credit from a remix does not get attached to the original recording.
Identify the recording first
Write down the artist, track title, album and version label before opening the credits. A live version, remix or translated recording may have a different set of contributors. An upload title that says “official” is useful context, but the original label and artist links provide a stronger trail than an anonymous reupload.
Keep the roles separate
| Role shown | What to record |
|---|---|
| Performer | The credited artist for this recording |
| Songwriter | The names under the published writing field |
| Producer | The names under the published production field |
| Other contributors | The exact role label rather than a guessed job title |
Do not assume that a group member wrote the track because the video features them prominently. Similarly, a similar spelling is not enough to identify two credit entries as the same person.
Understand the limits of streaming credits
Spotify explains that its credits come from metadata supplied by labels or distributors. Missing information on the service is therefore a reason to consult the original release material, rather than proof that a person did not contribute. Its guidance also notes that not every songwriter credit is clickable.
Build a useful source note
- Keep a link to the exact recording.
- Copy the role labels into your own notes accurately.
- Record the date you checked the information.
- Compare conflicting entries with the artist or label release material.
- Leave an unresolved identity unconfirmed.
Explore original virtual music clearly
For a separate original project, the KVIBE song directory links to listening destinations. KVIBE is a virtual K-pop project, not the label or representative of other artists covered by this magazine.
